Description
Peyman’s real life experience: I have cooked with this stove at least 10 years almost every single day. Used it in Sahara desert at +40c and in the Arctic winter at -30c. Perfect for bikepacking, hiking and winter expeditions.
Pros:
- Built to last: one stove to do it all
- Works in -30°c unlike gas stoves, but also in +40°c
- Works with petrol and also with low quality petrol which is available all around the world unlike gas for gas stoves
- Easy to clean
- Works in high altitudes, unlike gas stoves, and also in low altitudes
- There is no gas bottle waste
- Spare parts easily available from MSR.
Cons:
- With low quality petrol the heater needs more cleaning if you use it daily 2 times a day, then cleaning needs to be done once in each 10 days
- Pre-heating produces soot
- Flame is not really adjustable
- I would love to have 1.5 litre fuel bottle for the heater but MSR is not making that size.
Tips:
- If you store for long time please put some oil on O rings, so they don’t get dry and hard
- Always carry the manual with you in ur trips
- I highly recommend to buy expedition spare part kit
- For harsh winter trips you can buy Arctic pump and you can switch from regular pump to that
- Once in a while pull the fuel line wire out and clean it
- Use both hands for pumping the fuel bottle. In that way one hand always keeps the fuel bottle stable
- Pro 4T-pienkonebensiini (gasoline for small machines) is more expensive than the petrol which you use for cars, but it burns more cleaner and this means stove will need less cleaning. I recommend this fuel especially for winter expeditions: https://www.motonet.fi/tuote/neste-pro-4t-pienkonebensiini-5l?product=59-9045. This is not an affiliated link.
